Calling all young writers out there! If you’re under the age of 25, love British Vogue and have a passion for writing or telling a story, why not enter Vogue Talent Contest 2012? It’s not as difficult as you might think. All you need is a story and a dash of confidence.
Britain’s most prestigious writing award is looking for new talents who can spot a story and tell it with pace and creativity. Recent winners have become successful authors and members of VOGUE’s staff. This time the prize is £1000 (just imagine purchasing all those luscious things on your wish-list), as well as an entire month’s paid work at Vogue, and £500 for the runner-up. Sounds brilliant, doesn’t it? And there’s more! Finalists will be invited to lunch at Vogue with the judges. We’re bouncing off the walls just thinking about this opportunity.
Now take a note. Here’s what you have to do - you must complete ALL sections:
- Write about a personal memory. This could be a memory of an extraordinary event, place or person, or simply of something that resonated deeply (800 words).
- Write a short feature article - a contemporary cultural review, or a fashion or beauty trend (500 words).
- Write an opinion piece or polemic. This could be about a person or relating to current affairs or social issues (500 words).
Attach a passport-sized photograph of yourself (smile!), attached to a sheet of paper listing your name, permanent address, telephone number, date of birth and occupation. Keep in mind that one of the judges will be Alexandra Schulman - the editor of British Vogue, senior members of the magazine’s staff, guest editors and writers. Prepare to impress!
CLOSING DATE IS APRIL 11, 2012.
Send to Vogue Talent Contest, Vogue House, Hanover Square, London W1S 1JU, to arrive no later than the closing date. The winners will be announced in the October 2012 issue of Vogue.
