Double Dose

Looking through the lens

The Catwalk to Cover exhibition, an exclusive insight to the world of fashion, at Fashion and Textile Museum in London, gives its visitors a wealth of experience. The exhibition, which opened its doors to the public since November last year, delivers a photographic panorama of catwalk, backstage and street style.

A visitor is instantly intrigued by a see-through window covered in thin black curtains at the exhibition entrance, followed by an introduction of backstage photos at the fashion shows. The wall, completely covered in behind-the-scenes photographs, showcases a kaleidoscopic insight to the world of beauty and glamour.

A series of images, provided by top fashion photographers such as Kristin Sinclair, Philip Leech, Chris Moore and Matthew Lever, all of whom have several years of experience at shooting catwalk shows, showcase most captivating moments in the multi-million pound global fashion industry.

Visual style embraces intimate moments of most influential people in fashion at the front row and backstage, allowing the viewer to communicate with a single moment that truly reflects the exclusive experience of fashion photography.

Dangling little spotlights in the ceiling illuminate transparent GIF images of most wonderful dresses and costumes from designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, giving a feeling of avant-garde ambiance. Huge portraits of fashion models, separated by drawn white curtains, takes its visitors to a display of a few selected dresses worn on mannequins. The spectacular texture of clothes provide a theatrical feeling, where talent and creativity play a major role in the world of fashion.

The narrative follows a series of close-up beauty and make-up images, leading to a corner of a set of several small television screens. It is here that a selection of models moments backstage at the fashion shows, are shown on a silent repetitive rhythm. The last, but not the least important part of the exhibition, is dedicated to street style photography, giving an insight to most influential trends on the streets of London and Paris.

It is here that every visitor will gain more knowledge of the restless and chaotic aspects of fashion. Catwalk to Cover is an essential experience for all fashionistas out there.

The exhibition is open until the 25th February at the Fashion & Textile Museum - 83 Bermondsey Street, SE1 3XF London (London Bridge Tube station). Opening times: Tues - Sat 11am - 6pm. Tlf: 020 7407 8664
